Millennium City Vienna Shopping Mall Goes Digital with DynaScan LCDs

This month, the shopping and entertainment venue, Millennium City, in Vienna, Austria will see the rollout of 14 digital signage totems.

Covering an area of 50.000 square meters with more than 100 stores, restaurants, and entertainment facilities, Millennium City welcomes an average of 14 million people every year. Originally built in 1999, the venue combines offices, residential areas, and shopping with entertainment.

Three years ago, a plan to digitalize and modernize the center with a network of digital totems was put into motion.

The center turned to Kapsch BusinessCom to conceive, plan, install, and service the digital totems. Kapsch BusinessCom, a Kapsch Group company, supports companies in taking their business performance to the next level and developing new business models. A leading partner in digitalization, the company operates as a consultant, system supplier, and service provider.

A network of 14 totems and wall-mounted displays was planned for the venue. It consists of both single and double-sided displays located in various positions around the center to promote both information and advertising.

The fabrication and assembly of the totems were handled by Grunwald Display Solutions GmbH. Based in Dreieich, Germany, Grunwald Display Solutions offers a comprehensive portfolio of services, specializing in indoor & outdoor totems, touchscreens, large-format displays, touch monitors for industrial & medical purposes, professional video conferencing systems, as well as digital signage and multitouch software.

26 55-inch DynaScan DI551ST2 professional LCDs were used to power the totems. Featuring fanless cooling, an ultra-thin 24 mm depth, and IP5X ratings, the displays are exceptionally durable and well suited for high foot traffic areas. The displays are also factory calibrated for exceptional color quality and with 1.000 nits brightness, they provide high visibility in brightly lit environments.

Powering the media playback is the Giada D68. The company’s latest book-sized PC is ideal for signage player applications in hospitality, retail, commercial, service, and advertising roles. This device brings organizations all the performance and efficiency of Intel Whiskey Lake CPUs, plus independent outputs to multiple 4K displays, plus the ease of use and rapid employee and client uptake offered by intuitive touch screen support.

The software powering the displays is provided by easescreen. With an emphasis on advertising, information, and infotainment, easescreen software powers digital signage solutions around the world–from simple content management system up to business signage applications.

The content management and monitoring of the whole signage network will be operated by Austrian-based agency mediaCon. mediaCon is a digital marketing agency with a strong focus on digital signage.
